The Husband They Shouldn't Have Lost

The story of The Husband They Shouldn't Have Lost

The Lambert family, once powerful and wealthy, faces a devastating financial collapse as their stock plummets and their legacy crumbles. The patriarch, Harold Lambert, nearing death, desperately summons the mysterious Soul Ferryman, a supernatural figure who offers a lifeline in exchange for a final wish. Harold's wish is shocking: he asks the Soul Ferryman to marry his granddaughter Evelyn to a man named Mr. Vane, a solitary fairy who can shield the family from a deadly curse for three years.

Mr. Vane explains that through this arranged marriage, he will protect the Lamberts from misfortune, but the pact will last only three years and requires a heavy price of virtue and sacrifice. The Lambert family resents and distrusts him, viewing the union as an embarrassment and a threat to their social standing. Evelyn herself resists the forced marriage, but the family enforces it to honor Harold's last wish and to survive the curse. The marriage is sealed, the curse acknowledged, and tensions rise as Mr. Vane steps into his role as protector despite hostility from the family.
