Too Late, Don

The story of Too Late, Don

Alina Bellini, known as Mrs. Romano, has spent six years reshaping herself to meet the expectations of her mafia husband, Don Adrian Romano. She changes her appearance, hides her natural curves, and adopts the persona of the flawless Donna he desires, all while holding onto the hope that he might one day love her. Despite warnings that Adrian is incapable of love, Alina continues to test his loyalty by sending women to gauge his reactions, but none succeed. Her world begins to unravel when she unexpectedly sees an ordinary young woman leaving Adrian's private office—an office Alina herself is forbidden to enter. This woman is unlike any other, and Adrian has never mentioned her, sparking Alina's growing unease.

As Alina follows the new woman, she discovers Adrian is quietly supporting her with a job and housing, even lying to Alina about selling a property to cover the costs. At their anniversary dinner, Alina arrives late and unadorned, breaking from her usual efforts to please Adrian. He responds with cold detachment, distracted by messages from the new woman, who has taken residence in the Willow Street brownstone Adrian arranged. Alina faces the painful realization that Adrian's heart may never belong to her, and she contemplates ending their marriage.
