My Family Never Saved a Place for Me

The story of My Family Never Saved a Place for Me

Erin's family moves into a new home, but she finds that all the bedrooms have already been assigned to her parents, her brother Ryan, and Sophie, the girl they adopted after Sophie's father drowned saving Ryan. Despite being the biological daughter, Erin is left without a proper room. Her belongings remain stacked in the hallway until she is given a small, windowless storage room with damp walls to use as a bedroom. Her mother insists the family owes Sophie for her father's sacrifice, and Erin has spent ten years putting Sophie's needs before her own.

As the family settles in, Erin realizes she is increasingly overlooked. Her boyfriend Ethan and brother Ryan focus their attention on Sophie, while her mother dismisses Erin's needs, assuming she will soon move out of state for work. Even the storage room Erin occupies is planned to be converted into a walk-in closet for Sophie once Erin leaves. By the third day, Erin understands that her family has accepted her departure as inevitable, and those closest to her have grown indifferent to her feelings. She quietly decides to leave and seek a life where she truly belongs.
