A Blank Card, A New Beginning

The story of A Blank Card, A New Beginning

Liam, Chloe, and Jackson are high school graduates facing an uneven dynamic in their friendships and future plans. At their graduation party, Chloe gives Jackson an expensive engraved smartwatch but hands Liam a cheap, blank card with the price tag still attached, showing her disregard for him. Chloe assumes Liam will attend Eastbrook College with her and Jackson, but Liam secretly holds an acceptance letter from Westwood University, 3,000 miles away, signaling his wish to build a future apart from their plans.

As the party ends, Chloe gives Liam a cheap plastic pen as his "real" gift, further emphasizing her neglect. Despite feeling hurt, Liam quietly confirms his enrollment at Westwood. Later, for their senior trip, Chloe books first-class seats for herself and Jackson but moves Liam to a basic economy seat at the back of the plane, again assuming he will accept his place without complaint. Liam realizes Chloe repeatedly assumes he will never object or leave, prompting him to plan a new beginning far from the life she envisioned for him.
