Three Thousand Miles Away

The story of Three Thousand Miles Away

Amelia and her sister Sophia live under a custody agreement that splits their time between their divorced parents' homes, switching every six months. Their parents have always favored Sophia, treating her like a princess while neglecting Amelia. This favoritism has left Amelia feeling like an outsider in her own family, especially as their once-thriving family empire collapses, pushing their parents toward bankruptcy. Despite the tension, Amelia is the only one who can help her family financially, having earned a full scholarship to MIT, which represents her chance to escape the toxic environment.

At a tense family dinner, Amelia faces her parents' ongoing disputes over Sophia's custody and holiday plans, with both parents showing little regard for Amelia's needs or feelings. The parents' neglect and broken promises over the years have left Amelia isolated and resentful, culminating in her decision to accept the MIT scholarship and leave her old life behind. Amelia resolves to stop waiting for her parents' love and support, preparing to start college and distance herself from the family drama.
